VitalStim Therapy is an effective treatment for pediatric patients suffering from difficulty swallowing or dysphagia.
NAPA Center offers VitalStim® services by a certified VitalStim practitioner. VitalStim Therapy is an effective treatment for patients suffering from difficulty swallowing or dysphagia. VitalStim may be used with infants and children suffering from a broad range of diagnosis.
VitalStim is a non-invasive, external electrical stimulation therapy that uses specifically designed electrodes applied to the muscles of the throat to promote proper swallowing.
Our state-of-the-art equipment uses Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES) by placing surface electrodes over the target swallowing muscles. This helps muscle strengthening, which rehabilitates the swallowing process. It also provides sensory stimulation, improving muscle recruitment and swallowing function. VitalStim, in combination with swallowing exercises, will restore function and help the brain remap the swallow.
